Imposter Syndrome

Am I an author? As I have said before, I haven't had any books published, I have though, indeed written books, a few in fact, so I would say Yes, I am an author. However, sometimes I do suffer a little from imposter syndrome, after all, I style my own hair, but I'm not a hairdresser, I do my own make-up but again, I am not a make-up artist and yes, I cook dinner occasionally and I can definitely confirm, I am not a chef! (Thank goodness for my husband with that one) But I do feel, I am an author.

I have completed my latest novel "Sunbeds and Sangria" and submitted it to a second agent, submissions are hard, nobody warns you about that. I write the novel which I love doing, I get totally immersed in the characters and the places and can't wait to spend time at my desk, or on at the beach with my beloved notebook making notes and plotting scenes, people watching is great for that, it gives you so much inspiration. Then comes the submission, who are you, why have you written this novel, what's it about, who are the writers and books that you feel are most similar to your book, and why. Then there is the elevator pitch, the book blurb and the synopsis, one gives everything away, one leaves you wanting more, the one, well that sells your book in the time it takes to ride the elevator up, or down. Sometimes I feel this all takes longer than the book itself. Or, maybe like most people, we find it hard to sell ourselves, or our ideas, our babies and maybe its a little bit of that imposter syndrome coming out to play again. But guess what, it's all part of the bigger picture, the writing and reading of another book, the bit I love, so I keep at it and do it with passion and love. With that said peeps, it's time to get plotting for my next novel, Autumn's Cafe.
